Door handles stolen from more than 20 homes by scrap metal thief in 24 hours.
On September 21st. & 22nd from midnight to 7:00 a.m, more than 20 homes had their metal door handles and kick plates stolen. The theft occurred between 88th & 89th St. on Harper, Blackstone, & Dante. It caused a lot of inconvenience and expense for residents who woke up to find they had no door handles, after the thieves “systematically” wreaked havoc on the neighborhood. They usually strike when they think everyone is asleep, so if you hear strange noises, don’t ignore them.
Offenders: Described as an African-American male, brown complexion, about 5’9, 45-50yrs old. May ride a bicycle and carry a bag of tools.
What you can do: Anyone who may have information regarding this crime is urged to contact the police. If this happened to you, make a police report and contact your alderman. Advise your friends and neighbors of this incident Call 911 to report any suspicious person(s) or activities Urge police to launch an investigation targeting metal crimes
